It’s Friday, which means we’re all looking forward to the weekend. Thank god for the Vintage Vice mixtape, a 14-track exploration of all the illicit dabblings that we assume old timers didn’t do. As the opening song croons, “I may smoke my weed, you know it makes me happy… when I’m in need.” While we would never touch the devil’s grass — heck, it’s still illegal in some states, right? — we pass this mixtape along just in case you feel like you need an old timey inspiration to pour yourself a drink or roll up a doobie. Kids do still call it a doobie these days, right?
“Seems you can’t listen to music today without hearing some reference or other to sex, drugs and crime. Well, guess what kids, it ain’t nothing new! Join the Odyssey for an hour of vintage jazz, blues and folk brought to you by a motley crew of junkers, jivers, vipers, dope-fiends, hookers, boozers and crap-shooting sinners.
Some of these tracks are extremely old – in fact, the most recent track on here is 59 years old, so you’ll have to excuse the sound quality as the recordings were made from dusty old 78s…Personally, I think it adds to the charm.
